This is a node of the

Good World Movement...

a world wide network of people who believe that humanity can create a global society at peace with itself and its environment

On this site I share some ideas I think the human world needs if it is to remain a viable invention of evolution. I believe in a benign intelligence as the ground of all existence but I think one can talk about transcendental things without over-using the word God.

Modern cosmology and the concept of Conscious Evolution provides a context within which this non-religious discourse can take place. We know that humankind is a latecomer to the earthly stage on which the 4 billion years long drama of life is being played out. more... This should give us hope in spite of the messy performance the human species seems to be contributing to this grand production.

Thinking about thinking of the universe is uniquely human.

"...galaxies would twirl and stars would shine, but no one or thing could comprehend the majesty of the reality that is nature."

Illustration by Lola Judith Chaisson in The Life Era by Eric Chaisson

SelfReferenceLife itself is part of the greater life that is the Earth. And we are learning to play our part in planetary evolution in a way no other species can be called upon to satisfy. The internet, for example, is one such contribution to planetary evolution. It is being badly misused as any tool can be, but at the same time it also contains the potential to engender in the human species the global consciousness that is necessary if we are to avoid the many blind alleys in evolution or the self-extinction of our species.

It is sometimes argued that humans are arrogant to think themselves to be more than animals. Well, it really depends on the attitude one brings to these thoughts. Realising the responsibility implied by the thought can be quite a humbling experience. For me, our ability to think about the act of thinking of the universe in our heads is proof enough that we are wildly different from animals.

People shouting at the world over megaphones; Size=240 pixels wide

This is a very plain looking site but I hope that it is worth a visit for the ideas it contains.

Apologies for the use of the term forum when it is not really referring to the usual interactive facility of modern websites.
I agree that a site without a discussion area is only half a site. The greatest strength of the internet is that it enables a collaborative pluralogue to take place.
